The Dry Eye Issue
Dry eye disease is a common condition that affects nearly 300 million people worldwide, with the disease becoming more prevalent every day. The disease occurs when your tears aren't able to provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. Tears can be inadequate and unstable for many reasons. For example, dry eyes may occur if you don't produce enough tears or if you produce poor-quality tears. This tear instability leads to inflammation and damage of the eye's surface.
Dry eyes feel uncomfortable. If you have dry eyes, your eyes may sting or burn. You may experience dry eyes in certain situations, such as on an airplane, in an air-conditioned room, while riding a bike or after looking at a computer screen for a few hours.
Treatments for dry eyes may make you more comfortable. These treatments can include lifestyle changes and eye drops. You'll likely need to take these measures indefinitely to control the symptoms of dry eyes.
So How does Blink & Bliss Help?
While eye drops and other methods may be effective in relieving the symptomns of dry eyes temporarily. Blink and Bliss targets one of the major root causes of dry eyes, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction or MGD.
MGD is said to be one of the main underlying causes of dry eye disease by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
It occurs when the oil glands lining your eye lids get clogged or stop working correctly. When this happens it dissrupts the homeostasis of your tear film resulting in dry eye symptomns.
What does this look like?
When MGD occurs it affects the lipid layer of the tearfilm, causing instability and gaps in its makeup. This leads to the most common type of dry eye disease Evaporative Dry Eye Disease.
Its called evaporative dry eye disease because when the lipid layer is unstable the liquid or aqueous layer of your tear film will begin to evaporate and cause dry eye symptoms.
What Does Blink & Bliss do?
Our Blink & Bliss eye mask uses its therapeutic heat and vibrations to unclog these oil glands.
Further, the sustained 15 minutes of heat is backed by the latest research from leading Ophthalmologists as revitalising dysfunctioning meibomian glands and restoring the tear film.
